Spookies and Cookies

I can't say enough how much I love this time of year, fall and the holidays that come with it are just so much fun!  Pomegranates are in season and that makes me super happy also!

Another thing that makes me super happy is Carbon Leaf.  My husband, sister and I went and saw them last week.  So entertaining!  Check them out here, they have a Irish Folk, Rock sound.

My sister and I with Barry the lead vocalist.

We have started some home improvements in our new house.  Before my husband put holes in the wall there was a counter in this corner of our mud/laundry room.  I guess it was to fold laundry on but it just collected junk.
Before
We decided to rip it out and make it more useful by adding a bench, shelf and hooks.  Since we come through the garage mostly our coats and back packs were not ending up in the main entry closet.  Brian also moved a plug closer to the built in ironing board.
After
We painted the walls green and Brian built the rest and we painted it white.
We had a fun time doing this project, we aren't professional woodworkers by any means.
There is still more we want to do with the inside and outside of the house but it all takes time and money.

Been doing a little holiday decorating also.  I was wanting to make these lanterns for a long time but did not have anywhere to put them.  But now that I have these cute windows I thought it would be perfect spot.

Spooky at night

Thought I would throw in a recipe in this mega post.  Super easy peanut butter cookie.  You could even throw them together for a Halloween Party.  Maybe frost them with chocolate frosting and sprinkle some holiday sprinkles over the top.

Peanut Butter Cake Mix Cookies
recipe adapted from Real Mom Kitchen
Ingredients
  • 1 package yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup canola oil
  • 2 large eggs
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients. Mix together until well combined.
  3. Shape dough into small round balls and place on a cookie sheet. Using a fork, lightly flatten the balls making a criss cross pattern on the top.
  4. Bake all cookies at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes (check at 9 or 10 minutes to prevent over-browning). Makes 2 dozen cookies.

We had a little party at our house last weekend and I made these little frankies.  I pinned it on Pinterest  and it was just a picture but I think I figured it out.

Make regular batch of rice krispie treats.  Add green food coloring to marshmallow butter mixture before adding krispies.

Pour into 9x13 buttered pan.

When cooled dump out and cut into rectangles.

Melt half a bag of chocolate chips in microwave safe mug.  I like to add a little shortening, like 1/2 tablespoon to my chocolate when I melt it.  It just makes it more flexible.  Dip the "heads" of franky into chocolate and lay on waxed paper lined cookie sheet.

I bought white frosting in a tube and squirted little circles for eyes and put a chocolate chip in each one.  Then with a I found a Halloween frosting writing set at Walmart, it had the color black that I used for his mouth.  When all done pop them into the fridge until set.

I ♥ CARBON LEAF

If you have not figured it out by now I am in love with Carbon Leaf! Me and my bestest sister ever had the opportunity to see Carbon Leaf this last Monday. First off I was so excited that they were coming again to Utah, they came last year and I was overjoyed to hear them stopping by again. I bought tickets for my sister and I immediately when I found out they were coming and started counting down the days. The venue they were performing at was not one that I have heard of, Kilby Court.

So me and my sister headed into the unknown, but we knew it was still going to be great. We arrived at this kind of scary, run down street and then had to park and walk down a little side street. We came to the "venue" but it was really like some garage, not kidding. Some kid is making bank! But we really did not care because we were there to see Carbon Leaf. Everyone crammed into this shack and heard the opening band, really just a guy and a guitar, can't remember his name just wanted him to be done so we could get on with the good stuff. By this time we are all sweating and the only AC was outside doors and some kind of swap cooler blowing the hot air from outside on us. Finally the opening acted ended and the fun really began. My sister and I got some good spots, and we were about 5 feet from the band. Awww Carbon Leaf are such good performers and there music just puts a smile on face. My sister and I sweated and danced and sang! After the show we got to meet the band again and they were so cool and signed a shirt for me also.

I love you Carbon Leaf and I hope you continue to make great music and keep coming to Utah! If you want to know or understand what I am talking about click here or check out some of their songs on my playlist on my blog. Also below is a video of Carbon Leaf singing one of my most favorites songs of theirs.

Carbon Leaf

My sister, Jennifer and I went and saw Carbon Leaf perform on Monday, June 15 at the Urban Lounge in SLC. My sister got me hooked on them about 4 years ago. It was my first time seeing them perform and they were awesome!

Terry Clark, guitarist, and Barry Privett, lead vocals

Carter Gravatt, man of many talents.

Us enjoying the concert. At the first we were behind everyone and noone was on the dance floor.

Then we got enough gutts to be the first people on the dance floor. By the end of the show everyone was on the dance floor.

Jon Markel, bassist, Me, and Jason Neal, drums
After the concert we got to meet all the members of the band, they were so friendly.

It was one of the best concerts I have been to in a long time and the cheapist. That just proves that you don't have to pay a lot to listen to good music. I have added some of their songs to my blog playlist, check it out and let me know what you think.
